Bill Gannon joined Emerald in November 2022 and serves as the SVP and Editor-in-Chief of the Content Division, leading all editorial strategy, content development, and daily operations across Emerald’s 365-day digital and print brands.
Bill is an experienced digital media executive with a demonstrated history of dramatically growing brands, audiences, and revenues at a range of established global brands and start-ups. He has deep expertise in digital growth strategies, e-commerce and content marketing, diversified product development, print optimization, video distribution and social media.
Prior to joining Emerald, Bill served as the Vice President and Global Editor-in-Chief at Future plc, leading a portfolio of consumer technology and B2B brands. Prior to joining Future, he was one of three founding executives at First Look Media where Bill was responsible for the Online News Association award-winning Reportedly. Bill also served as Editor-in-Chief at Time’s Entertainment Weekly Digital, and as Director of Digital Media at George Lucas’ Lucasfilm Ltd. where his team won a Webby. He previously served as the global Editorial Director and Managing Editor of Yahoo Inc., and as the founding Editor of Financial Engines Inc.
Bill was the recipient of the John S. Knight Fellowship at Stanford University and a range of other journalism awards. He created the first applied social media class at the University of California at Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism as an adjunct faculty member. Bill is a former member of the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) Conference Board and has served on a range of non-profit boards and in advisory roles at start-ups.
