David Levin

David joined the Emerald board in August 2020.  He currently serves as the Chairman of SparkBeyond, an AI company focused on decision support systems and is a Director of COFRA Holdings, a private Swiss company with interests in private equity, real estate and retail. He is also the University Entrepreneur in Residence at Arizona State University and is the Executive Producer of the REMOTE virtual summit series that is focused on on-line and hybrid pedagogy.

Previously David served as the CEO of McGraw Hill (2014-17), the CEO of UBM plc (2005-13), CEO of Symbian Ltd (2002-2005) and of Psion PLC (1998-2002) and the COO and CFO of Euromoney Institutional Investor plc (1994-1998). While at McGraw Hill he positioned the business around the deployment of “learning science” and the use of adaptive learning technologies. At UBM, he led the pivot of the company away from print, building the exhibitions business through launches, geo-cloning and completing almost 100 acquisitions of events and data centric companies. At Symbian, he led the business through the deployment of its Operating System software on the first 100 million smartphones.

He holds an MBA from Stanford (1987) and a BA from Oxford (PPE – 1983)
