Our History

1985

United News and Media acquires Miller Freeman Publications, a producer of trade shows, trade books, and business magazines.

1991

Miller Freeman Publications merges with Gralla Publications (owner of Outdoor Retailer) to create Miller Freeman, Inc.

1994

Verenigde Nederlandse Uitgeverijen (“VNU”) acquires Bill Communications, which includes the Military and Hospitality Design trade shows.

1995

Miller Freeman, Inc. Acquires the Interbike trade show business and related publication Mill Freeman Inc. acquires (ASD/AMD) trade shows owned by Walter Fletcher Inc.

1998

VNU acquires Medtrade and Shore Varrone, which includes GlobalShop as well as Display and Design magazine.

2000

VNU acquires Miller Freeman’s U.S. portfolio, including Sports, Apparel, General Merchandise, Jewelry, and Kitchen & Bath Industry Show

2006

VNU is acquired by a consortium of private equity firms and rebranded The Nielsen Company

2010

Nielsen Expositions acquires the Wedding & Portrait Photographers International (WPPI) trade show and related publication and digital products

2012

Nielsen Expositions acquires the Sports Licensing and Tailgate Show

2013

Onex Partners (“Onex”) acquires Nielsen Expositions from its parent, an affiliate of Nielsen Holdings N.V., to create Emerald Expositions

2014

Emerald Expositions acquires GLM; including NY NOW, Surf Expo, IRCE, and ICFF

2015

Emerald Expositions acquires Pizza Expo, Healthcare Design, HOW Design Live, and Fastener Expo

2016

Emerald Expositions acquires IGES, Collective Shows, Digital Dealer, National Pavement Expo, RFID Journal LIVE!, and ACRE

2017

Emerald Expositions acquires CEDIA Expo, InterDrone, SIA Snow Show, and Connecting Point Marketing Group (CPMG). The company starts trading publicly on the NYSE under the ticker symbol EEX

2018

Emerald Expositions announces the acquisition of a leading technology event and group of complementary technology intelligence brands from EH Media; CE Pro, Commercial Integrator, Security & Sales Integration, Campus Safety, and Total Tech Summit.

Emerald Expositions also acquires Boutique Design New York (“BDNY”) and related assets from ST Media Group International and Hospitality Media Group.

2019

Emerald Expositions acquires G3 Communications, producers of the B2B Marketing Exchange event series and a top innovator in custom content and lead generation services.

2020

Emerald Expositions officially changes name to Emerald and launches new brand identity, vision, and corporate website.

Emerald acquires Atlantic Bakery Expo, the largest bakery event in the Eastern United States, and rebrands the event to Artisan Bakery Expo.

2021

Emerald acquires PlumRiver, the company behind Elastic Suite, a digital B2B platform that streamlines the wholesale buying process for both brands and retail buyers, creating a digital year-round transactional platform.

2022

Emerald acquires MJBiz, the leading event producer and content platform serving the wide range of companies operating in the large and rapidly growing cannabis industry including, MJBizCon, the oldest and leading B2B cannabis trade show in America, the Emerald Conference and related media brands including MJBizDaily, Hemp Industry Daily and MJBiz Magazine.

Emerald acquires Advertising Week global B2B event and thought leadership platform in the advertising, marketing, media and technology sectors.

Emerald, the owner and organizer of NY NOW®, the wholesale market for retail, acquires Bulletin Inc, a wholesale marketplace connecting over 3,000 independent brands with over 26,000+ retailers.

2023

Emerald acquired Lodestone Events, producers of the successful Overland Expo series of vehicle-based, adventure travel consumer shows.
